I stole this from
icarus_chained because i want to write something, but i'm feeling blocked up
Pick a paragraph (or any passage less than 500 words) from any story I've written, and comment to this post with that selection. I will then give you a DVD commentary on that snippet: what I was thinking when I wrote it, why I wrote it in the first place, what's going on in the characters' heads, why I chose certain words, what this moment means in the context of the rest of the fic, lots of awful puns, and anything else that you'd expect to find on a DVD commentary track.
I mean, i don't expect replies, since i write mostly commentfics (Most of which are under 500), and those are short. So, yeah
But *shrugs* I mean, i've written Boffle and Jooster things that are longer.
IDEK.

Date: 2010-08-29 09:43 pm (UTC)“What is it this time?” Control number two sprawled out on the sofa in the living room, one leg dangling lazily over the arm rest, the other planted firmly on the floor. He pillowed his head comfortably on his brother’s thigh, with a full on grin.
“Control,” Control graced the other with an amused smile, one reserved specifically for his twin when he knew C2 was about to make things very difficult. Plus, he was at a critical point in his latest novel- Tony’s novel, his brain supplied, rather unhelpfully- and C2’s head was making it impossible to turn the page.
“German?” C2 soldiered on. “French? Mandarin- don’t let it be Mandarin, I really don’t get the appeal in that one. “
“Control-!”
“Okay, okay…just tell me if it’s a romantic language. Italian? No, that’s too obvious… Spanish…too common.”
“Control, please!” Control sighed, softly, marking his page with his finger.
“Definitely not a romantic language, then,” C2 mused. “That’s for lazy days..you’re stressed…something less flowy-“
“Flowy isn’t a word, Control,” Control chided, gently.
“German, then!” C2 laughed. “Tell me it’s German. It makes the most sense, with the Berlin Crisis and all. Tony’s probably in high demand.” The telltale feel of Control’s leg tensing under his head, then relaxing at the mention of one Tony Murchison gave C2 the answer he needed. “It is German, you kinky ba-..”
“Czech-Czechoslovakian,” a new voice put in from the doorway, hesitant.”
“Oh, dear,” Control murmured to himself. It was going to be a long few hours…
“Czechoslovakian!” C2 crowed, from his back to his feet in a manner that would make any Olympic athlete green with envy. “Oh-ho…Neddy Muldoon, I always knew you were my favorite person for a reason!”
“We-Well..” Neddy stammered, flushed with surprise and barely concealed delight. “I just thought, you know…” his words were muffled by C2 lifting him into a rather dramatic hug, spinning him.
“You thought brilliantly,” C2 beamed at Tony’s meeker cousin. “So our Tony Murchison has been dabbling in Czech for whatever reason, and it’s gotten my beloved brother a little hot under the collar…and in his pa-..”
“Very well, Control,” Control interrupted, considerably flushed, placing a bookmark in his novel. “You’ve done a wonderful job of extracting my latest secret-“
“Well, Neddy did, actually,” C2 corrected, grinning and giving Neddy an affectionate squeeze. “I was way off the mark.”
“Tony has been in contact with one of our allies in Czechoslovakia,” Control sighed. The cat was out of the bag, or so they said. “He had a phone conference at twelve-o-clock from Prague..”
“Eleven our time,” C2 calculates. “So he couldn’t bring you..”
“You-your coffee,” Neddy finishes. Poor Tony…he must have been devastated!
“He’s been working terribly hard lately,” Control continued. “I thought maybe it would be a good idea to stop by his office and give him-“
“A blowjob,” C2 murmured, sotto voce, and was surprised when Neddy’s heel came down on his foot. “Hey!”
“—a cup of coffee,” Control didn’t appear to hear C2’s comment, but he looked a bit suspicious, in any case. “And I couldn’t help but overhear his conversation.” He swallowed, thickly, mind backtracking to eleven-o-clock, United Kingdom time…

Date: 2010-08-29 09:59 pm (UTC)C2 is just 'that sibling.' if you give him an inch, he'll take a mile, but it's all for Control's own good. I loved writing him. Actually, i just love writing bantery/teasing characters (C2, Gabriel.)
He's going to make Control blush, and squirm, but he's going to get an answer.
When we write, C2 is yours. But i love him, and enjoyed putting in the innuendo. I liked the timing and whatnot. I can see him guessing languages just for the sheer fun of it, of seeing Control's reaction.
Originally, Neddy wasn't going to be in this part, but the thought of him inadvertently aiding in outing Control's little kink would not be denied. This Neddy is still our stuttery little bugger, but with a tiny bit of that Neil-esque confidence. He doesn't want Control to be uncomfortable, but it's for the greater good.
A wise person once said, "It's hard to surprise C2." So Neddy's little bursts of confidence- like stomping on C2's foot, was enjoyable to write. He just wants Tony and Control to be happy.
The C2/Neddy dynamic is purely innocent. I didn't see anything romantic between them- more like..partners in crime. Plus, C2, who is just so open and out there, has no qualms about pushing into Neddy's personal space, hugging him, complimenting him. He'd do that with anyone.
\o/ hooray
And since I love this sort of thing, I figure I can request another.
Date: 2010-09-09 06:45 pm (UTC)Tony Murchison nodded, earnestly, taking in every word Ianto was saying like it was religion. “I agree completely. You know, Ianto, as unfortunate as it is, I’m quite glad the Secret Service happened to fall under alien invasion today of all days. I mean to say, it’s not everyday I get to meet someone as like minded about coffee as myself. Also, as it is Thursday, the distraction should do Control good. He does have an awful time on Thursdays.”
“So does Jack,” Ianto glanced at his boss, who was standing with a dark haired man with a kind expression, speaking quietly. Not to mention all other days of the week, too. “Besides, anyone could make a decent cup of coffee by pressing a button.”
“It’s terribly informal, though,” Tony said, gaze shifting to Control, softening. Ianto knew that look- he’d seen it in the mirror more often than not. “It adds something to be able to know what the receiver likes, and how they like it…”
“What days they need it a little sweeter,” Ianto’s eyes found Jack, who grinned broadly at Ianto, winking. “Sometimes bitter. Sometimes an extra jolt of espresso to get him through the day.”
“Control likes his coffee the same,” Tony commented. “A little bit of milk, not too much, though, and no sugar.”
(For a brief moment, Ianto wondered if they were even talking about coffee anymore)
“But you make it for him by hand,” Ianto pointed out. “The same thing, every day.”
“Eleven o’ clock,” Tony nodded, smiling warmly, eyes on Control. After awhile, the agent seemed to get a bit lost, the smile on his face growing gentler as the Head of the Secret Service caught his eye.
“Right,” Ianto murmured, coaxing his coffee machine into action, as Tony fixed a cup for Control, methodical, not even needing to look at what he was doing. It was impressive, really. Together, they brought their coffee to their respective bosses.
“Perfect as always, Ianto,” Jack beamed, taking a sip, and leaning in close to Ianto. Close enough that Ianto could tilt his head and taste his concoction on Jack’s lips.
“Thank you ever so much, Tony,” Control said to Tony, genuine. “If you don’t mind my saying, it’s terribly good of you to take the time to make me my coffee during an alien invasion. I do so appreciate it.”
“You’re very welcome, Control,” Tony handed Control his cup, fingers brushing Control’s. “Just as you like it, I hope.”
“It is, Tony,” Control nodded. “Just as I like it.”
“If I may be so bold, Control,” Tony’s face was flushed. “You haven’t yet tasted it.”
Jack glanced at Ianto with a knowing grin, sneaking a hand around Ianto’s waist. Ianto didn’t protest. Their guests didn’t seem to realize they existed anymore.
Later on, Jack was sprawled next to Ianto, sated.
“You know,” Jack said. “We’re pretty short staffed. We could do with another team member…or two.”
Ianto rolled his eyes, suppressing a sigh. As if Tony and Control had the qualifications for Torchwood.
“It was the coffee, wasn’t it?” Ianto rolled over, facing Jack, eyes narrowed warningly in the dark.
It was always the coffee.
Re: And since I love this sort of thing, I figure I can request another.
Date: 2010-09-09 07:38 pm (UTC)Maybe that's what i get for putting Jack, Ianto, Tony and Control in the same fic.
The coffee philosophy was originally going to be longer, more analytical. Like, why which person liked their coffee and what it said about their character.
Tony and Control were going to be a part of Torchwood.
Tony and Ianto could easily take over the world, i think. Not just through making awesome coffee, either. Both are professional, organized
look good in a suitand have plenty of patience. Ianto needs someone who won't take coffee for granted, and understands that there is an art to it. Hence, Tony. Also good for TW members to see good people in government, am i right?
I liked making the contrast between the bosses.
Control likes routine, he likes familiarity.
Jack likes to spice things up.
Jack would have snogged Ianto to thank him, and Control is all polite. But the meaning is still there.
Jack/Ianto have that established Honeymoon Yet Married Couple thing going on, while Tony/Control are still in their...'Look at each other. Blush. Look away.'
And Jack, typically, figures it couldn't hurt to have another few good looking members on the team, especially if one of them makes really good coffee.
So, naturally. Missing Scene- Ianto proves him otherwise.
Through awesome Welsh Sex.
Tony/Control/Jack/Ianto, anyone?

I approve of this!
