Work rant

Okay, i'm starting to get just a bit frustrated here. I'm one of two kennel attendants at work. I always do my best, never say 'no' if i'm asked to come in, even if it's on my day off, and i don't do a half-assed job.

Recently, the other attendant started school, so understandably, his schedule was a bit off. So i covered him until that stabilized. my boss clearly felt a bit guilty about this, once a part-time job had about become an every day thing. My boss had told me, light hearted, rolling her eyes, that if only he'd do his homework before it was due....but it was clear she felt frustrated.

So i covered for him.

Today he texted me, either getting my number from someplace at work, or Facebook..i don't know. It was the first time we'd ever texted directly...he was asking me if i was free tonight and if i could work. (today's one of my days off.)

I felt slightly confused, since if i ever needed to cover for him, the boss would contact me...never like this. So, since i had kind of a weird feeling (also given the fact that one of his facebook statuses stated he was skipping class on a day i was covering him), i told him i could cover for him, but i needed to know if it was okay that this wasn't done through Cyndie (the boss). Yeah, i was bluffing. I was also aware of there being one animal in boarding

His next text was a quick turn around, saying he'd handle it tonight, after all, but 'thanks.'

So, i was a bit sneaky. i emailed Cyndie...i said i was aware of the amount of dentals that were being done today, and that would make everyone pretty busy, and if she needed a hand tying up loose ends in the kennel. Cyndie replied, thanking me for the offer, but that there were no appointments for today, and after the dentals, everyone was being sent home early.

I had also asked the guy if everything was alright on his end, half concerned, half guilt-tripping. I found a text hidden away in my inbox with him replying,

"Yea, i was just being a baby and didn't wanna work, but it's probably good for me to work- thanks for getting back to me."

And you know what? I know the economy is shit, and i've been working ALOT, and my boss probably doesn't want to pay me extra. What if i'd gone in to cover for him when they didn't need to, and actually clocked in? Money's not so funny, and it's not a rich man's world, here.

I mean, it wouldn't hurt for us to communicate like that...texting, whatever..as long as Cyndie was involved with it.

So yeah, going around the boss to see if i'd cover for him because he didn't want to work?

Not cool.
