Of racing feet and shouts of delight and star bright faces
Dreams of forever, of growing together, and faraway places
The image of me, careless and free
Unaware of things soon to be
A world of hate, of broken promises galore
Of countries torn apart by war
A world of tears, yet of building hope
Of families learning how to cope
I weep for the children growing in these times
Where only the strength of love, hope, and friendship binds
I weep for my past self, filled with inspiration and light
Shining eyes free from present day plight
As a tear of the past springs to my eye
It is all I can do but turn my head and cry.

Its funny how things can change over time. I wrote this maybe...a year ago...2, give or take.
I'm still the same person who wrote that, but at the same time, i'm not. Though i'm still affected by goings on around me, it doesn't tear me up inside. I have learned to deal with it. Crying won't change the past, but it can alter the future. It all depends on how you look at it. I may only be 17, but i have regained strength for the coming generations. For my cousin Jack to raise a family in a peaceful world. For myself, even, to continue forward with my head high.
Memories...Memories are just that. Past times you hold to for a smile or reflection. They are not ones agenda, ones Bible or Torah or Koran. They aren't for someone to check on everyday to base their day upon.
My memories are not my companions. The memories, the dreams of laughter and future...they accompany me everyday. They don't exist in their own form...but of those i share them with. Those i make memories with. Nobody lives forever, and nobody can cast their eyes from reality for so long.
Whether those dreams of faraway places keep me in NY or abroad, i know i have a future.
